Other ICF Applications

Why an ICF Frost Wall, Foundation or Basement?

An ICF foundation creates more, faster and easier, low cost, ready-to-use living space. All people have to do is to feel the difference. With ICF’s you get warm and dry, with conventional concrete foundations you get cold and clammy! That’s why we try to convince all our customers to built and ICF foundation.

An ICF basement is more comfortable. It’s more comfortable than a concrete block basement. It’s more comfortable than regular poured concrete. Why? Because it is built with a reinforced concrete core sandwiched between two layers of expanded polystyrene foam insulation.

ICF basement walls dramatically reduce drafts and “cold spots” compared to conventional basements. The two layers of ICF foam insulation will also eliminate most basement humidity problems. The “thermal mass” of the concrete core stabilizes the temperature in your basement so that you get even comfort, all year round.

That’s the real payoff of an ICF basement. You get more, ultra-comfortable living space from the very first day your home is built.

ICF is the stay-in-place concrete form designed by builders. It is a complete wall building system. ICF forms are lightweight, pre-assembled, and lock together. You can build walls and foundations in any shape, size, or design you can imagine. ICF forms are 16” high, so six courses stack to a finished ceiling height of 8'. Add another row of forms, and you get a 9'3" finished basement. It’s easy. You can protect the foundation with a peel-and-stick moisture barrier, or use a premium water proofing system.

Why an ICF Home?

The expanded polystyrene (EPS) panels used in ICF blocks provide an insulation R-value of 26+.

When this is combined with the concrete thermal mass, temperature fluctuations inside the home are considerably minimized.

This highly effective combination greatly reduces the amount of energy required for heating and cooling.

When used in conjunction with other high quality systems such as low-E windows and superior roof insulation systems, homeowners have historically experienced an average of approximately 30-50% savings on heating and air conditioning costs annually.

In addition, drafts, hot and cold spots are virtually eliminated and a room's temperature remains consistent, providing exceptional comfort.

Consider the advantages of a Home built with Insulated Concrete Forms – ICF’s:

Energy Efficiency

The expandable polystyrene foam in an ICF-wall provides a consistent R-26+ thermal resistance over the life of the home.

Comfortable

Uniform temperatures, protection from mold and termites, cleaner air, quite and secure.

Strength and Safety

ICF structures are much stronger than traditional wood frame construction; over eight times stronger.

Sound Resistance

ICF homes achieve documented levels of STC (Sound Transmission Classifications) 50 (inaudible) or higher.

Why an ICF retaining wall?

ICF blocks are very light in weight and can be easily assembled & installed on a sloped site.

ICF retaining walls can also be used on ledge or rocky sites where the concrete footers are anchored in the ledge or bedrock.

ICF blocks are available in 4”, 6”, 8”, 10” and 12” concrete cores.

ICF retaining walls can be designed for the most extreme conditions: rebar size & concrete mix combinations.
